Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Television news serves as a vital platform for promoting democratic governance by informing citizens, fostering transparency, and encouraging public participation. In Ilorin North LGA, Kwara State, television broadcasts on governance issues have been instrumental in shaping public opinion and holding leaders accountable. Programs focusing on policy discussions, election coverage, and civic education empower citizens to actively engage in democratic processes. However, challenges such as limited access to electricity, bias in reporting, and audience apathy can undermine the effectiveness of television news in promoting democracy (Olayemi & Musa, 2023).
